The favourites
Yulimar Rojas is about as clear a favourite as you are likely to see across the Olympic athletics, not by virtue of a weak field but as the second best triple jumper of all time, only behind Inessa Kravets the Ukrainian twice banned for drug use. Many see Tokyo as a case of if she will break the world record.
Behind her are a whole group of athletes capable of filling the podium with little choose between them. Shanieka Ricketts is the silver medalist from Doha and has proved herself capable on the grandest stage. Liadagmis Povea by contrast is relatively raw. Keturah Orji of the USA was fourth in Rio and has blown hot and cold aross the circuit this year. Her best performance in the Diamond League this year is 5th. Kimberley Williams of Jamaica may be a strong shout for a medal, displaying impressive consistency and finishing second in the Doha Diamond league.
Patricia Momona of Portugal has was third in Monaco and was sixth in Rio.
